Hi, my name is Jo, and welcome to Girraween Creations – A Place of Flowers.

I have been part of the cake decorating and sugar art industry for over 35 years, and creating beautiful handmade pieces has always been my passion.

Girraween Creations was originally known as South East Cake Decoration Supplies, based in Pakenham, Victoria. Over the years, my business has evolved, and today I have chosen to focus on the products I love creating most.

A Very Special Name ❤️

There is a beautiful story behind the name Girraween Creations.

In March 2020, our family lost my beautiful Mum, Norma. Mum was my rock, my mentor and my best friend. She was also one of my biggest supporters and was incredibly proud of my business and everything I had achieved.

Mum was a very creative person herself. She had her own business called Girraween Creations – Pressed Flower Art, where she created beautiful artwork using pressed flowers. Her work was amazing, and she had many wonderful clients who purchased her creations.

I had always told Mum that when she eventually finished her floral art, I would love to continue using the name Girraween Creations.

Sadly, Mum passed away before that day came.

In her memory, I changed the name of my business to Girraween Creations, allowing me to continue her beautiful name and keep her love of flowers and creativity alive.

To me, Girraween Creations is much more than a business name. It is a tribute to Mum and the creativity, love and inspiration she gave me throughout my life.

Our Current Focus 🌸

Today, Girraween Creations is primarily focused on handmade sugar flowers and edible floral creations.

My passion is creating detailed, realistic sugar flowers, Australian native flowers, tropical and exotic flowers, foliage, flower sprays and sugar succulents. Each piece is handmade with care and can be used to beautifully decorate cakes, celebration cakes, wedding cakes and special occasion creations.

Alongside our sugar flower range, we also create a selection of handmade cookies, gingerbread, chocolates and seasonal Christmas products.

Our Christmas range includes handmade Gingerbread Houses, Christmas cookies, chocolates, gift boxes and other edible Christmas creations, with corporate gifting also available.

We are a small family business, and all of our products are made to order. This allows us to put the time, care and attention into each creation that handmade products deserve.

Creating Together as Sisters ❤️

I am incredibly lucky to have my sister Gayle as part of Girraween Creations.

Gayle creates all of our Fondant Cake Toppers for all occasions, from birthdays and baby celebrations to special milestones and everything in between.

Being able to work together as sisters and continue creating something connected to Mum's love of flowers and crafts means so much to us.

Mum would be so proud to see us doing this together.

We often think about how happy she would be knowing that her name, her creativity and her love of handmade art are continuing through us.

We love you Mum and miss you every single day. ❤️🌹

Behind Every Business is a Family ❤️

When I look at Girraween Creations today, I realise that it all comes down to family support.

Behind the scenes, we have the most amazing supporters.

My brother Greg has been an enormous part of my business journey. He created my website for me right from day one, and to this day he continues to be amazing at what he does.

Greg sees how much Gayle and I love this industry and how hard we work. He is always reminding us:

“You girls work so hard. You should be proud of where you are today.”

Those words mean more than he probably realises.

My Own Little Family ❤️

My family has also been such a huge part of my journey.

When I met my husband Darryl, he was already a father to two boys, so I instantly became a stepmum. My parents owned West's Cake Decorations Pty Ltd, so Darryl already had an insight into my love and passion for the cake decorating industry.

When we found out I was pregnant with our first child, Chloe, I made the decision that I wanted to start my own business from home so I could be a stay-at-home Mum.

What started as a small home-based business has grown and evolved over the years, and now my girls have grown up alongside the business.

Today, Darryl is still very much part of Girraween Creations. From around September through to December, he helps out most weekends baking our Gingerbread products, ready for me to decorate during the week while I continue working on our sugar flower orders.

And my beautiful daughters, Chloe and Maddi, are always there when I need an extra pair of hands. They step in and help create our Gingerbread Houses, Gingerbread Trees and other Christmas creations.

It really has become a family affair.

And Then There Is Dad ❤️

Our Dad has also been incredibly proud of what we do and has become our biggest supporter.

Dad is 95 years young and still loves getting out and about. He is always proud to tell his few close friends about our work and loves showing them what we have created.

His support means the world to us.
